Staying up

Sun Nov 8, 2009, 12:44 AM
So, its 3:22 AM. far past a decent time to go to sleep. It always amazes me the things i find, little gems, in the wee hours of the morning on the internet. I stumbled across a forum post about modeling and photography, and the bad rap that photographers had gotten over time, with pornography and all. Which led me to DA, where i came across a stamp, if i remembered the link i would post it, that said something along the lines of "I am tired of nude photography". The comments section that followed had turned into a sort of forum in itself, regarding what constituted art or pornography on this site. And through all of the ranting and raving of the members that had left comments and thoughts there was no consensus. Honestly that made me happy.

What is art? Who decides what is or is not worthy of being called art? Are there images with nudity that get favorites a lot because of the simple fact that they show nudity? SURE! I can attest to that myself having posted nude images in my gallery that garnered far more views and favorites that my other works that i deemed to be far better than others i had taken that did not have nudity in them. But the fact that five pages of comments debated the fact of what is or is not art in terms of photography in general astounded me. DA has been great to me, it has allowed me to get my work out there, seen even. But there will always be people out there that look at my work or someone else's and think that its crap, or that they could have done it better, or that its not art. We are all artists in our own right here. We owe each other that common courtesy to be called such and the availability of differing opinions and constructive criticisms.
